How old is your son?

My son and his friends build their own clubhouses all the time.

get some blankets, pillows, old refridgerator boxes and some paint.

if you have an older boy that wants a "permanant" club house...then get some particle board and 4X8s and try to build a basic square....if you look you ask at the home depot they will sketch something out for you and even cut the wood for a little extra to the right size.

Depending on his age, my kids used to love to put chairs and blankets over them. Other wise I would look on a freecycle yahoo place that is close to you and download a free plan off of the internet and then ask freecycler's if they have any building materials to give you that they might just have laying around not in use.

When I was a teenager I built a TV stand out of 2x4s. It was two feet high, two feet deep, and four feet wide with two shelves. It only costed me $50 in wood. It was ugly, but it was perfect for me. You should just draw up something that will work with 2x4s or whatever wood is cheapest.

I know the perfect solution if you are just starting with woodworking and also if you have already experience with it. I reccomend to give a look to this website ( woodworkingplans.kyma.info ) You can find a lot of woodworking plans and you will be able to manage the projects with a CAD/DWG software. It allows you to modify the projects and to alter the arragements. If you are a beginner this is the easiest way to start, it's the best approach to woodworking; and if you already have experience you will find a lot of ideas and inspirations to improve your abilities with woodwork. I'm sure that you will love it!

The plastic ready-made playhouses are pricey, but you can get one for well under $500 if you don't have to have all the climbing equipment, etc. We just bought a Little Tikes house for my daughter from Toys R Us for $150, and a separate slide to put beside it that was $30 - she adores it, and the house is big enough for her and a couple of friends to play inside at the same time. They often have free shipping offers from their website if you can't find them in stores near you.

Children love boxes from appliances like refrigerators, washers and dryers. You can cut the windows and doors for them.

I think that you could go to a thrift shop or a garage sale and just buy one. That may be easier

cardboard boxes, some paint and let your son build it, do that for now until you can afford a good one.
