Things for an 11 year old girl to do at home?

My 11 (almost 12) year old girl is getting really bored. We can't go anywhere at the moment, and for the time being we can't get friends over. She really isn't very girly but she likes animals and craft. She also really likes the computer, so website suggestions are great. We need things she can do without having to go out really, and I can't find many things on the internet, Thanks!

I have a ten (nearing eleven) year old daughter who also loves animals and enjoys crafts. Here are some sites that she might be interested in:



LittlePetShop.com (animal toys made by Hasbro-they have games and such at this site)



PackOFun.com (this is a magazine with arts and crafts, I believe you can access some of them at the website)



NWF.org (The National Wildlife Federation-they have magazines for children called Your Big Backyard and Ranger Rick, usually with stories and activities related to animals and nature.



Check out the zoo websites-many have live webcams.



We recently learned of the Kakapo, a bird only found in New Zealand. It was thought to have been extinct at one time, but a colony was found a couple of decades ago and they are trying to help improve their numbers. Perhaps she could learn more about it? It is an "owl parrot". It has the face of an owl, the coloring of a parrot, and it does not fly.



Perhaps she could learn about China, along with the history of the Olympics? Maybe she could learn more about her favorite Olympic sport?



The internet is so full of opportunity. Animal Planet is another good site.



Let her browse some sites such as PotteryBarn.com and request a catalog.



I hope this helps, and I hope she finds something to do! It is much too hot to go outside now, and my daughter has been spending a lot of time indoors.

I would recommend disney.com and then zone.msn.com. The first one is obvious what it is and the second is a gaming site for msn it's free. The games are relatively simple and they will keep her from pulling out her hair.

If you have the ability I would go to the library and stock up on books. I know you said that you couldn't go out that often but if you plan it right you could make it so that you just go once a week. At 11 I recommend: The Chrisy Miller Series, Sierra Jensen Series (both are by Robin Jones Gunn), And then anything by Lurlene McDaniel.

You might want to also check out Club BSG on the Beacon Street Girls website. You'll love -- it is set up just like middle school -- you get a locker to decorate, join the after school clubs and teams and make new friends.



Go to the site and click on the pink "Club BSG" or the locker to find the club. Plus the Beacon Street Girls friend you and you can friend other people too. It's a lot like Facebook but it is safe and just preteen girls are there. Plus you can leave messages on your friends' whiteboards.

1 Container white cake frosting

1 C. Smooth peanut butter

1/2 C. Confectiners sugar

Food coloring

Tell her what it is. You should also see how interested she is in the topic. My daughter was taking care of herself without us knowing it and kept getting infections from dirty hands or whatever else she happened to be using. After seeing my wife's OB/GYN we were told to consider getting her one and teaching her how to keep it clean. She hasn't had an infection since. To be clear she was already doing things herself, so I don't recommend getting her one for no reason.

I wouldn't suggest playing on the computer/internet - that's not healthy for a child. Far too many children are staying in playing on computers when they should be outside playing or doing something constructive.



How about painting? Challenge her to see who can make the best painting or if you don't have paint - drawing.
