It's a control thing. They can control what they put in their mouths and whether or not they want to eat. To combat it, you can give "options" that help kids feel like they are choosing. Instead of asking, "What do you want to eat" to which they'll answer their favorite every time, offer specific choices, "Should we have chicken nuggets or hot dogs or steak for dinner tonight? Broccoli, carrots or salad for the vegetable? Do you want milk, water or juice to drink" Let them know that they have to eat something and by making specific suggestions they still get the control of choosing what it is, and you know they're eating healthy!

Most kids are picky because the food they eat is the only thing that they can control. Another way to get them to eat something different is offer choices and let them help make it. If you get pre-peeled baby carrots they can put them in a bowl and put them on the table. Sometimes if they have a hand in making it they feel better about eating it.

Well, that's what they're used to and they might be scared to try new stuff because it looks "Yucky" or whatever. They don't have to like everything, because if you give them stuff they won't eat, they'll go hungry and snack on cookies and stuff and it is really unhealthy. Try to introduce them to new food. They'll try it when they're ready. But, don't serve them mac and cheese every day becsue kids need variety so that they'll be healthy. If they refuse, give them the same old stuff, and eventually they'll get sick of it and will beg you to make them something different.

What do you eat? Do they see you eating a variety of foods? Or do you eat the same things over and over? We started exposing our kids to all kinds of foods when they were very young. I think in most cases that is the key.

As people have said it's a form of control and it's also a form of identity.

As in, "No *he* likes apple juice, *I* like orange juice!!"
