Question:
Should I allow my daughter to wear a thong?

She seems mature enough, but i'm unsure if it's the right thing to do. She says that the underwear lines are embarrassing and she doesn't want to appear old fashioned if her her skirt happens to blow in th wind. I don't want to be an old fashiond mom, so i'm thinking it would be ok. what do you think?

BTW she is 8 and starting 3rd grade this week

That seems sensible, you should buy her some lingerie as well, you dont want her to appear outdated

No! There is absolutely no reason for an 8-year-old to start wearing thongs. The only reason a girl wears this is to look sexy and at that age what does it matter if she has panty lines. I guarantee all the other girls her age aren't wearing them, and if they are there is a serious problem with parents these days. Maybe it's not big deal to a lot of people, but it's just one small step in sexualizing your young daughter. Girls will always push the line when it comes to fashion -- that's just always going to be there. But that doesn't mean you should give in to every little thing she requests. Tell her that maybe when she gets into high school she can start wearing thongs.

By the way, did you know that wearing a thong greatly increases a girl's chances of getting recurrent urinary tract infections? For years I kept getting UTI's month after month and couldn't figure out what was wrong. Finally, somewhere I read about thongs doing this and once I stopped wearing them I haven't had a single UTI since!

The day she can afford to buy her own underwear, is the day she can pick and choose what style to wear. I didn't know they even make thongs in 8 year old sizes - how big is she??? I'm sure she see it as a way to be a 'big girl', but it is really age inappropriate. Why is an 8 year old concerned about panty lines? Maybe you should try buying her clothing that fits looser. See? No more panty lines. And no wearing leggings as though they are regular pants.

If there is a wind, do you really want everyone to see her bumb cheeks? What kind of visual is that for an 8 year old???

Uh, maybe I'm one of those "old fashioned moms", but I would not let my daughter wear a skirt that would happen to "blow up" in the wind. Apparently they don't go on swings or jump around anymore, but my daughter does, and I put shorts on under her dresses ... I don't want everybody seeing my daughters underwear either.

I would never let my daughter wear a thong. She may wear a thong when she is old enough to by things for herself without my supervision. Meaning ... highschool aged. Or beyond.

are you for real? what mom would allow an 8 year old kid to wear a thong i'm mean she's 8 not 14 years old or somthin if she was 14 or somthing then i would allow it but come on for real ? 8 years old? you shouldn't even be asking this question just tell her no and if she keeps begging keep saying NO it's called learning your child discipline btw thongs are used to catch the attraction of men so yeh just sayin

No! She's too young for a thong. Your her parent you get to make these decions, she's a little girl, not a teenager or adult. Besides what shes saying makes no sense she doesnt want people to see her underwear if her skirt blows up, yet shes ok with her *** in full bareness being seen by the public?

I started wearing them in the 4th grade. Mainly because I was in dance and in dance you cant wear underwear and i did not like not wearing underwear, so my mom bought me a few thongs to wear. I can understand the embarrasing panty lines, i was the same way when i was little. But the skirt thing? Thats a bit much...i woudnt allow her to wear a thong with a skirt at that age.

8 no offence but what parent would allow an 8 year old to wear a thong i wouldn't let an 16 year old wear one as long as there in my care.

What are kid going to say when she gets changed for gym, What if one of them tells the class teacher.

It's totally unacceptable for any child to wear a thong.

Its not old fashioned for a child to wear underwear it's just normal!!!!!!!!!

What kind of TV has your daughter been watching.

When your daughter's skirt blows up would you rather let people see here underwear or her naked butt!

Im telling you by the tend of the week all the boys are going to be outside the principle's office!

and do you really know who's passing past the school

Yeah and you could let her jump off a cliff.

Seriously, Is this question really on here!?

Of course you shouldn't!

What 8 year old girl wears a thong.

I bet even most kids my age don't wear them and im 14!

Thongs are for older teens and young adults.

Absolutely not! No way.

Instead, I suggest you get her fitted out in the underwear that leaves no visible lines.

Also, I think she needs a really long talk about keeping her private parts PRIVATE, which includes making sure the wind doesn't blow her skirts and expose her bottom on the playground.

Eight year olds have better things to think about then panty lines.

No she shouldn't be wearing a thong.

There isn't anything wrong with that type of underwear on older children but there are creeps that will take it the wrong way.

So do you really want to expose your daughter like that?

Didn't think so.

Absolutely not, she's 8. So what i she doesn't want to look "old fashioned if her skirt happens to blow in the wind," that's just inviting trouble.

Be an old fashioned mom! Children dont need parents to be friends, they need parents to be PARENTS.

And honestly, I'm going to call your bluff and say you're a troll. I dont think any sensible mother would ask such a stupid question.

At 8 I think she is a little young. At least wait until she is in middle school.Even than I think she would be young.I have never thought about wearing one and I am 14.Thongs are suppose to be sexy and it would probably get her into other sexy things.

No.

A thong is a piece of underwear meant to engage a male's (or female's) attention, attract him sexually, i.e. make want him/her to do her.

An eight year old? Come on, I bet she hasn't even started her period yet.

Seriously, lay down the law.

No.

If she has underwear lines, she needs thicker pants and skirts.
