Question:
can you get a child seat or something similar to a buggy board to go on a wheelchair?

My husband has recently come out of hospital and needs to use a wheelchair. We have a 2 year old son who likes to walk but quickly gets tired. The first outting we had was a disaster as my son refused to sit on his dads knee when he got tired and I ended up having to carry him as well as pushing my husband in the wheelchair. I wondered if you can get a child seat to attach to the back or something similar to a buggy board that my son could stand on when hes gets tired. I have looked at buggy boards and the width is fine but the fixing that clip onto the upright bars are far to narrow as the wheelchair bars are a lot chunky then those on a pram. Can you suggest anything or any website where I might be able to get something, or can you come up with something we might be able to make?

Thanks in advance

Theres a bike seat thing which clips on the side of pushchiars.

Its called the bibi rider? Or bibi bike. Works simular to a buggy board, but is used slightlyto the side so enables the person pushing to have more room.

Its measurements that fit bars are

Oval Frames:

14x23.8mm

16x25.4mm

20x30mm

Round Frames:

16x16mm

19x19mm

22x22mm

25x25mm

Square Frames:

16x16mm

18x18mm

I think you might have to adapt one. If you cant find anybody who will do it for you then the only other solution that I can think of that might help you is that get one of the slings that you can carry toddlers in. I carried my son in it on my hip , not ideal but I think it is easier for you to do that than carry him normally and push the wheel chair. The best thing would be to try and get your son to sit on your husbands lap. Perhaps he feels insecure and thinks that he might fall off. Maybe you could have a few trial runs in the house so that he gets used to it. I wish you all the best.

I`m not sure anyone manufactures them, I have seen 2 both made by owners for their wives to ride on. I agree with above me, try the local garage mechanics, they are very good and would enjoy a challenge !

if you cant get anything and its a metal framed wheelchair, ask your local garage (if they are nice folks) if they could weld on a strip or poll of metal between the tip pegs at the back.
