My (just turned) 11 year old daughter, does well in school, knows how to read, but hates to read. We try so hard to make it more fun for her, but nothing has worked so far. We know that eventually she will learn to like reading, but in the meantime, does anyone know any books that are age appropriate, but an easier read? Thanks.

I am a teacher and my fourth grade students really enjoy Judy Blume's Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Fudgemania, SuperFudge, DoubleFudge. Fudge is a boy that does a whole bunch of silly things. They are humorous. Also my students loved Becuase of Winn Dixie, The Magic Tree House Series, etc. It is just finding what kind of books that she likes and then running with it. Keep in mind that not all adults like to read books, but we like to read other things. Maybe have her read the song lyrics to some of her favorite songs while listening to it, or reading the screen of her favorite T.V. program while it is on, magazines are always a favorite as well. I hope that helps out.

Go to Borders together. Give her like $20 and tell her she can buy books or magazines. She may think it's more like shopping, but she won't buy stuff she won't use (hopefully).

On Sundays, all of us read the Sunday paper in the morning during breakfast. I read the Business, wife goes through coupons, kids read the comics and ads. Sure there's a lot of pictures, but it's a start. Maybe your daughter is more visual. Try getting some magazines for her.

If all else fails, make a deal that if she reads, she can have more rewards like staying up late, extra allowance, weekend movies, slumber parties, etc. If not, she won't get those as often.

Well I like books that tickle me, make it humourous for her. Right now I am reading Anne of Green Gables...she might like that book, even if it is a little thick! We are only one year apart{ I am 12}. You might also try the Laura Ingalls Wilder series. Or pick books that she likes ...one day ask her what her interest is....be sneaky, get books on that subject.....make it fun...kids don't like listening to the same tone over and over..... we get enough of that in reading , with the other kids. I f you want something easier to read. start out with books like Judy Blume, like the fourth grade teacher said, if she doesn't think she can get into any of those kinds of books, try the book Loser. It's a great book!! It is about a boy who doesn't know he is making a fool of himself all through school until he hears other kids talking. It is also age appropriate. If she likes adventure and mystery, try Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys Collection. I've read some of Nancy Drew but I'm more of a comedic girl. If all else fails, lay the guilt trip, it works on me!!!!!! Or tickle her till she reads....that would work with me too!!!lol :)

My mom used to bribe me. I got a quarter for every book I read... I loved books by Ruth Chew (all sorts of magic books) and The Phantom Tollbooth and Summer of the Swans, Runaway Ralph... It really depends what she's into. At around 11 or 12, I liked sad books (though I have always been an optimist and a very upbeat person... I just enjoyed reading about *other people's* tragedies :-)
Huh?! Who Is THis?!

A Great way to start is to get her very short intereting books. It may be that she get's bored easily. A book of poems is the best way to start, then maybe you you have apoety writing contest. A night of recital will also help, each person taking turns to read an interesting piece of literature.

All of these answers are excellent. You might try reading together. It may sound strange but my sons still liked me to read to them when they were 12-13 years old. I would read their assigned books to them. It was like old times when they were little kids. Even when I taught school my sixth graders loved to have me read to them. Give it a try.

It's probable to invest plenty of time and income looking for methods to train your children how to see and enhance their reading skills. Is hard to show a small kid how to read, and also engaging them to learn is difficult in itself. Nonetheless it does not have to be like that since you got the aid of this system https://tr.im/ekOAu , Children Learning Reading program.

With Children Learning Reading you may train your child how to separate seems and break phrases into phonemes, an essential thing when your kid is just understanding how to spell.

The studying program from Children Learning Reading program makes it simple for kids to see easily and correctly, from simple words to sentences till they understand to learn stories.

Buy her Series of Unfortunate of Events by Lemony Sniket. Get her book one "The Bad Begining". I love those books and I'm almost eleven.

i have an 11 year old myself and she loves to read...(lucky her and me) however, it wasn't easy to convince her of it. I just made her read every single day OUTLOUD. That was the key for me and my child. Good luck.

Let her discover how fun it is for you to read! If she sees that you read and enjoy doing so, she'll start to be curious about it. Don't pressuere her. Read with her, let her chose the topics, read for her (kids love to be told stories)... you will see that she'll soon start to read! And she will love it!

Well, you should try to find out what she is interested in, and try to find her books about that.

Read with her and make it funny and use accents!
